A peer-to-peer meeting between Malta and the Municipality of Wrocław took place online on 4 December 2020. It was organized by the International Organization for Migration, in the frame of the project ADMin4ALL, to allow for mutual exchange of information and sharing of good practices on the reception and social inclusion of migrants in their respective territories.
The Municipality of Wrocław was represented at the technical level: the executives of the “Intercultural Dialogue Group”, within the municipal Centre for Social Development, presented the initiatives put in place to foster migrants’ inclusion and social cohesion in the Polish city, including the Intercultural Education Fair, which has been organized annually since 2014, with the aim of promoting and developing intercultural competences and good intercultural practices in Wrocław educational institutions.
Malta was represented by three governmental institutions and agencies dealing with integration. The Human Rights Directorate – within the Ministry for Justice, Equality and Governance – illustrated the national Migrant Integration Strategy “Integration = Belonging”. The Migrant Learners’ Unit – within the Ministry for Education and Employment – focused on the induction classes for new-comer learners in primary and secondary schools. The Foundation for Social Welfare Services (FSWS) showcased the main services provided, which are addressed to everyone in need within the community.
The representatives of both territories expressed the intention to further enhance mutual information and exchange in order to learn more from each other and better understand how to adapt and replicate some of the respective good integration practices.
The meeting was part of the EU-funded project ADMin4ALL, which aims at enhancing the capacity of local institutions across 7 EU Member States (Austria, Greece, Italy, Malta, Poland, Romania, and Spain) in the area of migrant integration, including through fostering the exchange of good practices among participating authorities, while contributing to the creation of an EU-wide community of localities committed to integration.
